proof-sets-united-states-mint.jpg 2011 is bringing a variety of United States Mint proof sets to coin collectors.

With silver proof sets, copper-nickel clad proof sets, and commemorative proof sets, there are plenty of options when it comes to buying examples of 2011 United States coins.

Let’s take a look at all the shimmering details of what numismatists have to look forward to this year.

2011 United States Proof Sets

The United States Mint has been offering proof sets to coin collectors for decades.

Proof sets are popular because they contain specimen-quality examples of coinage.

2011 proof sets continue that tradition with several enticing offers:

  • 2011 silver proof set
  • 2011 copper-nickel clad proof set
  • 2011 Presidential $1 coin proof set
  • 2011 America the Beautiful silver quarters proof set
  • 2011 America the Beautiful copper-nickel clad proof set

Each of these proof sets is scheduled to be released throughout 2011.

2011 Silver Proof Set

Since 1992, the U.S. Mint has been offering coin collectors 90-percent silver versions of circulating copper-nickel clad coins. The 2011 silver proof set has 90-percent silver versions of:

  • Roosevelt dime
  • America the Beautiful quarters
  • Kennedy half dollar

Other coins, like the Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel, Native American dollar, and Presidential $1 coins are also included.

As of the writing of this post, the 2011 silver proof set is being sold for $67.95.

2011 Copper-Nickel Clad Proof Set

Otherwise simply called the 2011 proof set, this offering includes proof versions of the regular strike United States coins.

The 2011 proof set includes:

  • Lincoln cent
  • Jefferson nickel
  • Roosevelt dime
  • America the Beautiful quarters
  • Kennedy half dollar
  • Native American dollar coin
  • Presidential dollar coins

The 2011 proof set is currently priced at $31.95.

2011 Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set

If you’re not interested in buying proof versions of all the 2011 United States coins, there are some alternatives, the first in this list being the 2011 Presidential $1 coin proof set.

The 2011 Presidential $1 coin proof set includes coins featuring:

  • President Andrew Johnson
  • President Ulysses S. Grant
  • President Rutherford B. Hayes
  • President James Garfield

As of this writing, there is no information on the price of the 2011 Presidential $1 coin proof set, though to date they have been priced under $20.

2011 America The Beautiful Silver Proof Sets

Just like its big brother — the silver United States proof set — the 2011 America the Beautiful silver proof set offers 90-percent silver versions of circulating coinage — though only the quarters honoring national parks and historic sites.

Here’s a rundown of the 2011 America the Beautiful quarters:

  • Gettysburg National Park, Pennsylvania
  • Glacier National Park, Montana
  • Olympic National Park, Washington
  • Vicksburg National Park, Mississippi
  • Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Oklahoma

Though prices have not been released for this proof set as of this writing, it’s likely to retail somewhere in the $40 to $50 range, given current silver prices.

2011 America The Beautiful Quarter Proof Set

The regular America the Beautiful quarters proof set contains the same coin designs listed above, except these are produced in copper-nickel clad, which is the same metal composition used for making regular-strike America the Beautiful quarters seen in circulation.

While a price has not been yet listed for the 2011 America the Beautiful quarters proof set, similar sets have been sold by the United States Mint for under $20.
