National Park Silver Bullion Coins

The National Park quarters (which will hit the streets in 2010) will not be the only coins to honor our nation's treasured landmarks.

Along with the National Sites Quarters program (also called the America The Beautiful Quarters program), the United States Mint will also be offering silver bullion coins featuring our nation's landmark parks.

National Park Silver Bullion Coins

To concur with the release of the the National Park Quarters, the National Park Silver Bullion Coin series will also begin in 2010.

Like the National Park quarters, the National Parks Silver Bullion Coin series will feature the same designs as included in the corresponding quarter series.

The silver bullion coins will contain a full 5 ounces of .999 fine silver and measure 3 inches in diameter. These coins are going to pack a lot of silver -- the current Silver Eagle bullion coins each contain just 1 ounce of silver!

Edge Lettering On National Park Silver Bullion Coins

The National Park Silver Bullion coins will contain a feature being seen more often on U.S. coins: edge lettering.

The edge lettering on the silver bullion coins will note the weight of the bullion coin, as well as the silver fineness.

National Park Silver Bullion Coin Prices

A price for the National Park Silver Bullion coins has not yet been set, and this is no surprise. After all, bullion prices fluctuate day to day. Silver prices in particular have seen numerous fluctuations in recent months.

Silver bullion prices as of this writing (April 2009) are about $12.75 per ounce. This means a 5-ounce silver coin would have roughly $64 of silver in it. However, any slight fluctuations in silver prices will mean this cost will increase or decrease significantly.

Furthermore, the U.S. Mint usually charges more than strict bullion value for its bullion coins. As the release dates of each National Park Silver Bullion coin get closer, it will become clearer as to exactly how much the U.S. Mint will charge for these coins.

Where To Buy National Park Silver Bullion Coins

The U.S. Mint has stated it will sell National Park Silver Bullion coins through bullion coin dealers located throughout the nation.

This is a common practice that the U.S. Mint has already used for selling its uncirculated bullion Eagle coins.

Silver Bullion Coin Series Facts

America's Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 (H.R. 6184), the bill President George W. Bush signed in December 2008, allows the U.S. Mint to strike the National Park quarter series for at least 11 years, beginning in 2010.

The series will include 56 different designs.

However, the language of the bill actually grants permission for the program to continue for an additional 11 years. That means the National Park Silver Bullion coin series may last 22 years -- until the 2030s!
