The Internet has really opened up many opportunities for coin collectors looking for ways to enjoy their hobby more.
The thing about searching for a coin site online is knowing where to spend your time.
With the vast number of coin sites available, it’s important to narrow your focus to the sites which offer you the information and advice you really need.
As a lifelong coin collector, these are the top 5 coin sites that I personally enjoy visiting the most…
The American Numismatic Association, famously referred to by its acronym ANA, is a widely respected coin organization.
The ANA dates back to 1891 and has been chartered by Congress. The ANA coin site is chock full of information for new and experienced numismatists.
The ANA’s site is the place to go if you want to learn more about coins and numismatics as a whole.
The ANA coin site has many, many articles, photographs, and content pages which can help make anybody a well-informed coin scholar. And, if you choose to become a member of the ANA (which is not required to take advantage of many of their great tools), the services they provide to members will also help further your understanding and knowledge of coins.
The United States Mint coin site is another great resource for coin collectors as well as people who don’t necessarily collect coins but are still interested in learning more about our nation’s money.
The U.S. Mint website is the place to go if you want to order coins and coin products directly from the mint.
Also, the U.S. Mint coin site offers links to:
- Informational pages
- Lesson plans for teachers and parents
- Historical articles and images about coins
The U.S. Mint site also has an online pressroom where the latest news from the mint and the coins it makes is released.
The Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) is a well-respected leader in coin grading and encapsulation. The company’s website also has pages and pages of information about coins in general.
Another feature on the PCGS coin site is that it offers a comprehensive, online coin pricing guide.
Keep in mind, the PCGS states that the prices listed are only applicable to coins graded and contained within a PCGS holder. (It is true, however, that the majority of the prices listed on the PCGS coin website are very similar to the prices seen elsewhere for the same coins.)
The CoinWeek site, first online in 1995, is a great coin website to visit if you want a great mixture of:
- Coin news
- Articles
- Information
- Videos
- Bullion pricing
- Many other resources for the coin collector and coin investor
The CoinWeek site also offers collectors answers to their coin questions. You will find plenty of new things to read every week at this coin site.
The eBay coin buying site is a neat place to get information on coins. This coin site offers buying guides for the various products sold on the site.
The coin buying guides offered on the site are numerous. There are many educational and insightful coin guides listed on the coin website. These guides are intended to help users on eBay become more acquainted with the products they may be buying on the site.
These coin guides range in topics from general information about coins to coin grading and slabbed coinage. While the guides are relatively basic, they do provide good, introductory information to coin collectors.
There are also links you can click on if you care to buy any coins on eBay.
