Sales of the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin end December 31, 2009.

The 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin is a nearly exact replication of the famous double eagle gold coin design first minted in 1907. It was designed by famous artist and sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

The differences between the 1907 coin and the 2009 coin are:

  • The addition of 4 more stars (because we have since added 4 more states!)
  • The inscription of "IN GOD WE TRUST"

With the high approval of President Theodore Roosevelt, Saint-Gaudens had intended to design a coin with a very high relief, but minting technology in the day was not capable of mass-producing coins with such a high relief.

A century later, technology is able to bring you the beauty, luster, and richness of the famous design as Saint-Gaudens had hoped and intended all those decades ago.

My love for coins and numismatics began in 1992, when I was 11 years old. I primarily collect and study U.S. coins produced during the 20th century. I've also been studying meteorology and watching weather patterns for years. I enjoy sharing little-known facts and fun stuff about the weather with others.
